Trevor Paul Wight (1974 - )
Born in Vancouver, Trevor grew up in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. It was here that he began his formal art training in 1992 at the University College of the Fraser Valley (now the University of the Fraser Valley). In 1996, he moved eastward to Alberta where the completed the last two years of his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Lethbridge. In 1998, he was accepted into the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Saskatchewan. There, he developed his style of combining photo-based silkscreen with abstract painting. After completing his Masters in 2000, he stayed in Saskatchewan for another two years to complete a Bachelor of Education. Trevor then spent a year in the far north of Scotland where he taught high school and exhibited his art throughout the United Kingdom. Since returning to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia in 2003, Trevor has continued to produce and exhibit his work as much as his busy schedule will allow. Typically, he produces a new series of paintings every two years. His most recent series, “Hopes and Expectations” will be shown at Restaurant 62 in Abbotsford in the fall of 2009.
Besides art, Trevor is passionate about the sport of Track and Field. He has competed at the national level for well over a decade in the sprints, hurdles, throws and multi-events. Much of his energy for the sport comes from trying to keep up with the athletes he coaches at Yale Secondary School in Abbotsford where he teaches art and physical education full-time.
Trevor lives in Abbotsford, British Columbia with his wife Katherine. They were married in December, 2005 and have two sons: Luke, born in March 2007, and Benjamin, born in December, 2008.
